Some questions about Server 2008 please:
Server 2008 standard SP2 in workgroup mode.
I realize that Server 2008 in workgroup mode is not utilizing all the power of the server but for this network all they really need is the ability to share files with permissions to over 10 users.
1. Is there an easier/different way on Server 2008 besides the registry hack to hide user accounts at login?
2. I also have an older server 2003 as a DC in a AD- this server is still serviceable but will have a reduced role in the network. If I want to take this server and change it back to join a workgroup - is that simply a matter of changing from domain to workgroup?
3. XP box accessing 2008 server - both same workgroup, subnet and user account/password. User on XP box can see share on server but cannot read/write unless the everyone group is added to the security. The user has been added to the security permissions but that does not seem to permeate to the server. Any ideas? Under effective permissions that user has the rights to the folder.
4. Any other thoughts about Server 2008 in workgroup mode?
