Insert in Oracle table and update current timestamp

I am testing a timezone solution for the database.  I need an insert statement to a test table I have set up call DBA_TIMEZONE.  There are two columns (control, updated).  I have generated 1000 rows.

I need a DML statement to change a record and see what timestamp is written to the updated column.  I have not changed the server time, but I have changed the DBTIMEZONE to Brazil East and exported the TZ to Brazil/East on the Linux redhat server.

Could someone help me with a simple test statement to insert a record and see what timestamp is recorded.  Thanks
