Opening FTP Port 21 on Centos

Hi All,

I recently installed Centos 5.x and I am trying to connect to the server from a remote
maching via ftp.  And, from what I have read online, an entry to the iptables must be made
in order for this to be done.

But,  whenever I attempt to add the rule iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -dport21 -j accept to open
the ftp port the following error message is encountered:

iptables v1.3.5: host/network '--dport21' not found.

Has anyone seen this message before and how can this be resolved?
Also, I have disabled the firewall on the local machine, but I still could not establish a ftp connection to the server

Thanks in advance!
