How to add Windows 2008 as DC in mixed-mode Domain?

I have a single Domain with 3 domain controllers. All are running Windows 2000. Domain is running in mixed-mode (supports win 2000 and pre windows 2000 domain controllers)

I want to add Windows 2008 server in the mix and make it the domain controller , PDC if that applies here.
Step by Step instructions would be helpful since i am not expert at this.

I also have couple of servers running Windows 2003 but they are not DC's

Thanks for your prompt help.

I don't think you can use 2008 as a dc in a domain with win2000 in mixed mode

start here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731015(WS.10).aspx

Basically you can add a 2008 member server to your domain, then dcpromo it to 2008 DC, which will replicate the objects over.
Can you promote out of mixed mode to win 2000 native mode?

ASKER

i can change the mixed-mode to native mode since i do not have any NT servers. We originally had NT box running as PDC but now that machine is just part of the domain as a member workstation.

It seems i need to promote to native mode and the follows  steps from this post?

Domain was created about 10 years ago by someone using a NT box. I guess we never had to change anything that would require native mode.
Now we are in the process of upgrading both hardware and software.

Right now our PDC also runs SQL and Exchange server. What i want to do is separate DC from other stuff i.e. DC will only do that.  I have 3 new servers ( Sun X4100 x 2 , Sun X4600)
I want to move SQL and Exchange to Sun X4600 (it has 32 GB of RAM , 8 AMD CPUs), but i also need to keep the same name/ip for that machine, but thats a separate issue i guess ;)

One of the X4100 will become PDC and 2nd of the X4100 will run webserver and some other apps and also would be a DC ........................ i only want two new 2008 machines as DC's
I am planning to retire all 3 of the current DC
