Sharepoint: Can Word 2007 be used to publish to a 'Publishing site' aswell as a blog?

Good Morning,

I have just recently joined an organization using Sharepoint, and after watching some of the msdn dev videos, I saw that you can publish directly to sharepoint from Word.

The example I saw was using a 'blog' type site template, but the company here uses the 'publishing site' template, and I was wondering, if they could still use Word as the editor for the documents?

At this point in time, the document contents etc are being passed arund 3 different people if the original admin isn't able to resize images, or do anything now included in the WYSIWYG interface built into SP. If we can hook it up to a similar way that you can the blogs, it will make life easier on the admin and make the publishing process a little more efficient.
