Hi Experts,
i am trying to bring up KMS in a windows 2008 R2 64bit OS. i followed the setup guide at microsoft technet (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc303280.aspx#_Install_KMS_Hosts):
Quote:

To install a KMS host on a Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 computer
1. Log on to the computer that will serve as the KMS host.
2. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
3. To install your KMS key, type the following at the command prompt, and then press Enter:
cscript C:\windows\system32\slmgr. vbs /ipk <KmsKey>
4. Activate the KMS host with Microsoft® using one of the following:
a. For online activation, type the following at the command prompt and then press Enter:
cscript C:\windows\system32\slmgr. vbs /ato
b. For telephone activation, type the following at the command prompt and then press Enter:

Hi nokyplease,
To answer your query on point 5, The Software Licensing Service" has been renamed with Windows 2008 R2. It is actually called, SPP Notification Service.
You can alternatively run this command in command prompt to re-start the service;
net stop sppsvc && net start sppsvc
Cheers

i tried to stop and start the service but seems still cannot setup the KMS.
i tried to type cscript slmgr.vbs /dli at command prompt and the result is
c:\Windows\System32>cscrip t slmgr.vbs /dli
Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.8

Name: Windows Server(R), ServerStandard edition
Description: Windows Operating System - Windows Server(R), VOLUME_MAK_B channel
Partial Product Key: XXXXX
License Status: Licensed
i don't have the "Key Management Service is enabled on this machine" etc. information show.
how can i troubleshoot this?
many thanks.

further to my question, i also would like to know what key i need to key in to a windows server 2008 kms host to activate windows 7 clients???
if you have a offical KMS Key provided from Microsoft you have to install (ipk) it on your KMS Server. If you have a specific count of clients (25?!) or server(5?!) trying to activate with KMS Server the KMS Key on the server is activated
The Client KMS Setup Keys are existsing for inital activation
Note: If you e.g. activate Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 you have to install a Server 2008 R2 as the key is higher than the Windows 7 Key. (only one KMS Key is possible for each KMS Server)

Hi Nokyplease,
merowinger is correct. I have provided you with all KMS keys, however you will need to install the 08 R2 key via slmgr /ipk <kms key>. and you will need to meet the minimum client count specified above.

Hi georgekhalil,
i finally managed to enter the correct kms host key, thanks.
one more question, for those kms client keys that you provided, is that i need to enter to client box each time when i install? i am currently using MDT2010 for deployment and there seems doesn't have any kms client key field for me to key in.
thanks.
