Desktop suddenly looks like Safe Mode

This morning, when I powered up my laptop, my desktop (and windows of programs I have opened thus far) look like my computer is in Safe Mode, with the large icons, low resolution, etc.  This changed on it's own.

I checked Run-msconfig, and it appears I am in th "normal" startup mode.  How do I get it back to normal?

System Restore does what it always does, which is to go through the process and then tell me it couldn't restore my computer - no changes have been made.

Help.

Check your video properties and make sure that the correct video card is installed/listed.
You might also try to run SFC SCANNOW.
Just insert your OS CD while holding down Shift to prevent autorun.
Release the Shift key after about ten seconds.
Then click Start and in the Run field type SFC /SCANNOW and select OK.

in order to install graphics drivers you need the driver CD , thats a cd that comes with your computer generally when you buy it(also known as motehr board cd)

It would have an auto install or you will find a folder which is generally named "vga" or "intel 845/945"(depending on your chipset)
if you find a setup in that folder , run it

if you want to manually install then the procedure is
1. go to device manager(right click mycomputer->properties->hardware->device manager)
2. try if some icon had a yellow question mark or a red exclamation mark, if yes then these are the affected drivers that need to be installed (these may not be graphics drivers only)
3. the graphics drivers in the list would have names like "Display driver" or "Display adapter"
(If they are not with yellow question mark /exclamation mark, my advice, dont fiddle with them)
4. next select the driver ->properties->driver->update driver
5. it will either search the cd or you could provide the location yourself
6 If the driver is found it would start installing with your permission. you are ready to install , click next
7. if it could not find proper driver in the cd, better download drivers from the manufacturer's site or use auto install

Hope that helps
