I'm trying to install ESXi onto a Dell 2950 server. I have downloaded the dell specific installer called "VMware-VMvisor-InstallerC
I have done this several times with various different CD burners and programs.
In all cases the install stops in the same place - a picture is attached.
What is puzzeling is that I have an old 3.5 install disk - and it installs fine.
Anyone have any ideas why ESXi 4.1 refuses to install?
Thanks for any help,
Jim

Thanks - no external USB devices are plugged in. just the power supplies and the video display. I have even taken out the keyboard connector.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Jim
Without the ESXi CD in, does the server boot?
Will it boot with another CD in?
You need to try and establish whether the fault is with the ESXi CD or the server/CD-ROM.

VMware, a software company founded in 1998, was one of the first commercially successful companies to offer x86 virtualization. The storage company EMC purchased VMware in 1994. Dell Technologies acquired EMC in 2016. VMware’s parent company is now Dell Technologies. VMware has many software products that run on desktops, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS, which allows the virtualizing of the x86 architecture. Its enterprise software hypervisor for servers, VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi), is a bare-metal hypervisor that runs directly on the server hardware and does not require an additional underlying operating system.
