VCP Certificate Test Preperation

I am wanting to get my VCP Certification. I have already taken the "VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V4]" course but was wondering if there are any other courses or materials that the experts would recomend as helpfull in achieving this goal.

Thanks

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hands on paractice in a lab is always better than a course IMO, however Vmware has a mandatory course which you have done.

I would get a lab going, then read articles white papers forums and practice.

Also get some prctice exams.

I have never been able to afford a course so have always done the above for my certs.

I can not stress enough how you need to read and *know* the Resource Mgmt Guide (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40_u1/vsp_40_u1_resource_mgmt.pdf). Also, the config max guide is needed as well (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_config_max.pdf).  But basically, if you go through those, and the ESX Config and Basic Admin Guide (see doc URL: http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/vs_pages/vsp_pubs_esx40_u1_vc40_u1.html), you should do real well.

Here is VMware's Resource pdf for you to study by:

Best of luck!

I do work with esx 4 and vcenter, but we are a smaller set up with only standard version licenses and currently 4 hosts. so I don't get much practice with some of the fancier features.  and becase we are a smaller shop I do not have enough spare hardware to set up a lab that would allow me to play with some of these features (like vmotion for example)

I also was looking at the "  VMware vSphere: Troubleshooting [V4] " course. Have any of you taken this course or heard anything about it? it sounds to me like it would be good to take.

I have been working my way through the list of reading suggested on Vmware's site (its quite a long dry list). I had not come accross the Configuration Maximums Guide, I will add it to my required reading list.

I took the Install/Configure course and not the Troubleshooting course. I personally can't comment on it's relevance, at least as far as the exam is concerned. Since I do have Enterprise edition in my environment, I get to work with much and when I took the Install course, I just asked troubleshooting questions to the instructors :) And, some of the other class attendees answered when they could as well (btw...I took my course online).

Not for vSphere...but for VCP3. From what I've heard/seen "around", the guides above are critical. Just follow the VCP4 Blueprint and you'll be golden. Best of luck!
