send email to group in lotus notes

How can I send an email to a lotus notes group? I want to send from external webmail client like hotmail, gmail, etc. I tried typing the group name followed by the domain name but it returned back an undeliverable response. (group@domain.com). This works for users (user@domain.com) but does not work for groups.

Thanks,
Glenn

   hi there glenn_r,,,,

The best way is to add an  " Internet Address " for this particular group ... So, access the group document and do it .

If the group is in your local Contacts as MyGroup, and it contains Internet addresses, you can just use the name MyGroup, i.e. without domain or whatever. AFAIK, the Internet Address is used only to receive mail.

If you are trying to send from outside the organization to a public group defined in Domino, then you must add the internet address to the public group document in the Domino Directory.  You must also set the "Deny mail to groups" field to disabled in the SMTP Inbound section of the server's configuration document.  Additionally, if you have a spam appliance that does an LDAP lookup to your Domino Directory, you must ensure that your search filter is pulling groups.

Which version of Domino?

@Greg: I don't have a field called "Deny mail to groups"... talking R8.5.1 here.

Configuration document > Router/SMTP tab > Restrictions and Controls tab > SMTP Inbound Controls tab > Inbound Intended Recipient Controls section.  "Verify" field must be set to Enabled, then you see Deny mail to groups.
