The system can't find the inittab (/etc/inittab).
of course, it depends on the distribution you used. It is strange that the system can't find it, maybe it has been deleted by a crash?
Which distribution is?
try to put this line in /etc/inittab

id:5:initdefault:

does it change something?

its the OS that comes witha thin client. HP thin connect build 97.(HP t5135)

we have the thin clients freeze and need to have the OS reloaded. normally I have no error message when this happens, but got the error above on a thin that froze and didn't have our normal config and gave teh message. Hoping to have somehting that can pull it out of the broken state that a help desk agent can tell a user.

Will try that next time i have access to the thin in question.
