"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

im hosting my website on VPS windows server 2003 on godaddy
with 512 MB RAM and CPU      Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5110 @ 1.60GHz x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6 ~1596MHz
for memory consumption it is related to w3wp.exe and sqlservr.exe
they are always consuming more than 250 mb even if there is no visitors at my site
and when couple of people visit my site , the IIS hangs and i start receiving out of memory errors and service unavailable also sqlservr service  will be shut down automatically
and to get my site work again i have to reboot the server
My site is ASP.net 3.5 with MS SQL 2005

in my website im dealing alot of images since my website is about Cars
so im calling Response.binarywrite alot
and some times the sql 2005 hangs and stop responding and the process will be shut down
what i will do is the following
i will review my code
and dispose most of the objects after using them

i read in some articles that enabling the Garbage collector will cause memory leak
so i put the following in Asp.confgi
<gcServer enable=false>
is this correct????

I would advice not do that .... ASP.NET as in-built garbage collection mechanism and it is utmost necessary for your performance  .. So just don't have any references to garbage collection in the config ...

One more thing ... If your site is all about images .. Its is better and advisable not to store the image in the database .. Not only will it grow the DB to huge proportions but also will some times deny you service by shut down simply because it can't handle the load...

Just store all the images in a folder and use DB to have the filename so that mapping between filename and the file in folder is intact ..... doing this will also improve the performance to a very great extend ....

You will be having

Response.BinaryWrite(imagecontent); // the same imagecontent will be used as follows

get all the images using a select query

for each imagecontent // this is pseudocode, just loop thro all images
{
System.Drawing.Image img = (System.Drawing.Image)imagecontent;
img.Save("path to save");

}
