I thought BES needed its own hardware and Blackberry Pro sits on exchange servers?

Hello,

Can you clarify what you mean by "i have downloaded a database server with Service pack 3". What database server? SBS has SQL built-in.

I would suggest that you contact BlackBerry. When you downloaded your free software, it should also have the credentials and link for "One Complimentary Support Incident". Since this is a specific BlackBerry issue, you would receive the best support there at a price that is hard to beat!

or I can see some other expert view on how to proceed forward on this matter problem with blackberry support is its just too vague and there is so much possible factors they are mentioning for the same problem i am not sure they will be helpful but you suggested it i can try

ok i have manage to install but now i dont understand how to use the feature quickly to setup blackberry user i have added one user and then send him the activation email but it doesnt send any email where do you think problem resides

Jamie McKillopIT ManagerCommented:
You won't see the activation email until the device is activated. If you have setup the user and set an activation password, use the user's email address and the password you set to activate the device.

On the device, go to options-advanced options-enterprise activation.

Have you set an activation password on the user's account in BES?

if it isnt activating, i would suggest going back into where it says Enterprise Activation (on the blackberry) and hold down the ALT key and type CNFG

make sure wireless sync is set to Yes or On

if it isnt, turn it on.  Otherwise, if it is already set to on, turn it off.  close out, wait about a minute, then go back to the same config and turn it back on and see if it will try to activate then.

Ive seen sometimes, having to go back to the BES management program and remove the user, wait a minute, re-add them, then reset the activation password and try to sync the phone again.

I know its annoying, but using the BES express seems to have some of its downfalls.  This being one of them.

Verify with your wireless provider that you have the correct data plan to connect to a bes server. If you have a bis data  plan you won't be able to connect.

hi thanks for that i will try your ideas but i am just wondering if i connect the device straight to the server will that become easier to activate when i am looking through online material i am seeing options where it says attach device by right clicking on the user in administration console but in this version of BES Express Version: 5.0.1.4  i do not see this option does that option only appear when device is connected

You can install Desktop Manager on your PC and activate through that but you should really get the activation working over the air. It will do you no good to activate it tethered if you can't communicate with the server to sync your mail over the air.

The Web Desktop Manager is an end-user web interface that allows users to control certain aspects of how their device and the BES server interact. You can use the web desktop manager to activate a device that is connected to the computer by USB.

Again, the problem is that you are bypassing the wireless network when you activate this way. If you are having trouble activating wirelessly, there is a communications problem and the device will not sync even if you do activate it while tethered.

Again, the first troubleshooting step I would take is to verify your data plan with your mobile provider. That is the most common problem related to communication between the BB device and the BES server.

hi buddy
it turned out the BES is not enabled on the set the problem is its so costly in uk for enabling on the handset i just dont get it why would they charge approx $40 dollars for it from your experience is there anything special cell phone provider does to make BES works on blackberry handset stupid of me asking is there a way around it.
0
Jamie McKillopIT ManagerCommented:
There is no way around it. To use BES, your phone needs to communicate with the RIM NOC. You mobile provider needs to setup the peering and they change extra to do that.
