Server print spooler not running (0X000006ba)

I have a windows xp pro sp3 workstation, connected to it is an HP LaserJet P3005.  printing from the workstation is 100% fine.

We connect the workstation to a Windows Server 2008 (X64) Terminal Server.  We do NOT use TS Easy Print as it renders some important documents improperly.  We had been connecting to the printer via UNC paths (ie.  \\192.168.X.X\Printer_name)  this had been working fine for a few months.  Yesterday we started getting the following error:

Server print spooler not running (0x000006ba)

we are still able to print from the workstation without issue but we are no longer able to print from the Terminal Server.  I have rebooted the workstation, I have restarted the Print Spooler service.  I am getting frustrated (as is my user).

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried to look in the event viewer to see if you can get a more accurate reason as to why the Print Spooler would be crashing/stopping? I have had this happen in the past and it was due to a bad print driver that was installed already on the machine. The bad print driver was causing the spooler to crashing and always needed to be restarted. Once driver was removed everything worked fine.

Start with the event viewer as it might be something else casuing the problem.

For some reason I had yet to try restarting the print spooler on the server.  After I had done this, I was able to re-setup the printer with the old UNC pathname.

I hope this helps someone.
