Exchange 2003 SMTP Started Internet Stops

Hello Experts

I have a SBS 20023.

Server been running for 2 years no problems.

This morning customer rings, internet is slow.  I think virus scan all computers, found a few but nothing bad.

Internet still SLOW

So i think hmm maybe server.   I stop the SMTP service.  Bang internet is all good again.  Start the service in a few seconds is't slow again.

I've checked all queues and queue location there is no emails wait there.

It's not relaying problem.  This server uses a pop connector to receive emails and port 25 isn't NATed.

I have no other idea what to try.  After some help.

Regards,

it is possible tat the SMTP service is corrupted...try deleting that SMTP and creating a new one

Try this
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124688%28EXCHG.65%29.aspx

Do run telnet server ip 25
and make sure you get the following
250-mail1.example.com Hello [172.16.0.1]
250-TURN
250-ATRN
250-SIZE 5242880
250-ETRN
250-PIPELINING
250-DSN
250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
250-8bitmime
250-BINARYMIME
250-CHUNKING
250-VRFY
250-X-EXPS GSSAPI NTLM   *
250-AUTH GSSAPI NTLM
240-X-EXPS=LOGIN  *
250-X-LINK2STATE  *
250-XEXCH50   *
250 OK

If any of the above is missing smtp is not correctly working

ok since someone objected to the close of the job.  & that also the problem wasn't fixed after i thought it was.  I'll post what i did to actually fix it.

i installed MFCMAPI and deleted the SMTP TEMP table.

I also applied this hot fix. KB950757

So that fixed the problem not uninstalling and reinstalling.  Shouldn't hardly ever need to uninstall & reinstall a server app.  So i didn't try it.  Just reapplied SP2 for exchange.  Which didn't fix it.
