Upgrading ASDM Manager Removes Link to ASDM

OS: Windows 7 x64

I'm attempting to upgrade my ASDM Manager from 602 to 621 (as the neweset ASA with IOS 822 installed requires the upgrade); after I upgrade, ASDM Manager launches but after I close it I cannot seem to restart it. I notice that the icon in the taskbar switches from the normal ASDM Manager icon to a java icon after the upgrade. When I view the Cisco/ASDM directory in Program Files (x86) I notice that the launcher.exe is no longer present.

If I reinstall 602, everything returns to normal and I can find the launcher.exe and launch ASDM Manager, but upon the upgrade, it goes back to as stated.

I have this one ASA that is using IOS 822, so I'd like to get the upgrade to work; if all else fails I can always downgrade the ASA version.

I recommend you dont use the locally installed ASDM since there are problems with different version if it is not uninstalled correctly - make sure you java is up to date

instead just connect to the ASA via webbrowser and run the applet instead of installing it

that should solve your problems

your config should have a line that says "  http server enable "
its better if you use a different port too because if you want to use the ASDM from the WAN side, you cant port forward anything on 443
so just use
" http server enable 400 "

then use the browser " https://(asa-lan-ip):400

and when the page opens select run applet (and just uninstall the local ASDM installation)
I manage different version of ASAs and Pix Firewalls and always had problems with the different ASDM's if they are installed locally - but running the applet directly from the ASA ASDM WEB SIte works everytime

Thanks.

Possibly it was because I didn't uninstall the old version before upgrading. I just put on a different IOS image (804) that worked with the current ASDM I have installed locally.
