Have you configured your TCP/IP settings on the NAS to point at your domains DNS sever?

Thanks for your earlier reply,

Yes, I have pointed out the server name DNS of my domain controller with the appropriate IP address with the gateway, even though it say "I can not join you domain"

Kindly advice me for any solution,

Many thanks,

When you add the usename for authentication, try adding the domain name first like:

mydomain\username
No, it gives me error that "The domain user name can only contain 'a'~'z', 'A'~'Z', '0'~'9', '_', ' ', '.', and '-'." it is not allowing me to put \

Kindly advice for the same.

Many thanks,

Any other solution can work around....plsssssss
The link I am providing is for a terastation but many of the points are equally relevant for trying to get a NAS device running linux to join a active directory domain.

http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Joining_Active_Directory

I think these are some of the most important points of the article.....if you have to create a machine name manually make sure it matches the name of your device exactly as it is seen on the network.

  1. There must be a machine account for your TeraStation on your  Domain controller existing, (It must  be configured for a pre Windows  2000 computer).
  2. This machine account for the TS must be flagged as trusted for  delegation,
  3. Inside your DNS-server there must be the (A)Host entry for the  TS in the Forward-Lookup-Zone and
  4. inside your Reverse-Lookup-Zone there must be the PTR-Record.
  5. Make sure the time of the terastation does not differ more  than 10 minutes from the AD server

Make sure the DNS server your device is pointing to is the primary one

Thanks to all of you for your valuable reply,

I successfully connected the NAS to the AD & I am able to see all AD users in the users but I can not do any thing with the AD users here....like I can not see the property or I can not add the quota...etc.

Kindly advice for the same.

Many thanks.

Is the machine trusted for Delegation?

Is their a host A record and a PTR record for the device?
Thanks JParker505 for your reply,

I am sorry for replying you late.

Which machine are you talking about NAS Server or DC? & How can i check whether it is trusted for delegation & pls tell me how to do that, if required.

No, there is not any host A & PTR record for NAS in DNS, do i need to create it in DNS?

Kindly advice me ASAP,

Many thanks,

Thanks for your reply once again,

NAS name like "PODNAS" i have created manually in AD's computers. It did not came automatically.

As advised I have checked "Trust Computer For Delegation" in PODNAS property & also created Host

A record in DNS with PRT records. but still in PODNAS i am not able to do any modificatation with the

domain users,

Kindly advice me how can i play with my domain users in NAS.

Awaiting for your earlier reply,

Many thanks,

Any commentssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss pls.
Is it a web interface you are using to control the NAS? Is it possible you are having issues with the interface? You may have to add the web interface as a trusted site or install flash or java. Just shooting in the dark there.

Thanks Encrypted1024 for your reply,

I have tried with installing flash & java with no success any other shooting are also welcome.

Many thanks,

DXB
Did you try adding the web interface to trusted sites or toggling IE8 compatibility mode on and off?
Yes, i did all what all i could,

any other advice???????????????

awaiting for your earlier reply,

many thanks

What exactly do you mean by you are not able to do any modifications to the domain users? Do you see domin groups and users in the NAS interface? I am still wondering if your NAS is correctly connected to the Domain. You had to do a lot of "Fudging" to make it work.

Thanks Encrypted1024 for your reply,

I mean to say that the option to do any modification the the domain users are grayed out, I can not do with the domain users including to delete them.....meaning I can not even delete them???????????

I dont know how QNAP is made like this way?

Any suggestion are welcome.

Many thanks,

DXB
