SharePoint Folder Permissions

I have a MOSS Enterprise SP2 environment using AD groups to handle permissions.  I have some users that just this morning are no longer able to access folders within libraries. Their AD group have the contribute permission level or they indiividually have the contribute level (which has not been modified) on the library and the folders are inheriting. This issue is not specific to a particular site.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Have the users or the AD groups been changed?  I have seen weird problems when Sharepoint seems to disconnect the link between the internal Sharepoint users and AD.
