akamaitechnologies.com -- eating bandwidth. PC's not being used, and just turned of after being off for a long time

Any idea what this might be?  The PC's do have AV -- but the AV updates from an AV server.   The PC's were not being used -- they were just turned on after being off for many months.

When the PC's were on, I was getting inbound traffic from akamaitechnologies.com maxing out my 2Mb of bandwidth.

Any idea what might cause this?

No problems on this until you booted the machines?

And no problems after shutting them off.     I am thinking it might be windows updates.   All the machines are very out of date and are trying to catch up at the same time.

If it's SUS you'll see the traffic reaching out to a windows address space.  My guess would be that you've got adware that is attempting to chatter out and attempting to re-sync.
