Microsoft Access cannot open this file.

Just upgraded (reluctantly) from IE 7 to IE 8, and now I can't open a Microsoft Access database that I was able to get to before (on IE 7).  This datasbase is located on another PC on our interoffice (peer-to-peer) network.  The message is "Microsoft Access cannot open this file. The file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site.  Microsoft Access will not open the file due to potential security problems.  To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network location."  I ran into this same problem when I upgrade from IE 6 to IE7 but I can't remember how I fixed it.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This is probably due to the Security settings of this new version of IE. Try changing the Internet Option-Security settings to see if it allows you to open the Access database without saving it to the disk.

Can you be more specific?  Which settings should I change?

Had already tried that, no change.

This fixed it:  tools -> internet options -> security -> local intranet -> click on the 'sites' button, remove the check next to 'Automatically detect intranet network' and DO NOT remove the checks in sub-items

I was almost there (Internet Options-Security). I was just getting to the Local Intranet part...
