How do I increase Jave heap size on XP

get the following error message. The application requires a larger maximum heap size to run from the shortcut. The minimum heap size requirement for the application is 270 Mb. Is there a simple method to correct this problem on windows xp. I am not a Java programer.

In Windows, the applet heap size is determined by the Java Plug-in. So
you have to adjust it in the Java Plug-in Control Panel.
What application are you trying to run?  Have you checked for an updated version?  Do you have the latest version of JAVA installed?  Go to http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp to find out.
