Dreamweaver locks up

I have DW CS 4 and use a mac OS 10.4.11.

Why does my DW lock up ALL THE TIME?  For example, if I have multiple DW docs open (tabs at the top), I cannot get to them because my open doc window has positioned itself UNDER the DW toolbar.  The only way to "fix" this is to randomly click on different views (developer, coder, classic, etc). That will "unlock" the document and allow me to click on the tab for the other DW doc I want to work on.  I attached a screen shot.

Hi nsitedesigns,

The fact that "Missing Manual" is mis-spelled leads me to think you have an extension installed and that extension is coded rather badly.

I would disable all extensions and see if the program continues to lock up.  If not, then re-enable one at a time until you find the bad one.  Once you know which extension is bad, kill it.

The misspelling is on my end.  I set up a workspace for the Missing Manual book per its suggestion.  I will delete it and see if that does the trick.

Well, I deleted the two custom work spaces and about 10 minutes later I had to move my DW window.  In doing so, it locked up flush to the top of my screen so the workspaces were probably not the problem.

My advice about checking extensions still stands, though.  Do you have any and if so, disable them and see how it goes.

I have a mac.  Is that under the windows/extensions/connections button?

Found it.  Got the following message:

There are some extensions installed in the previous version of extensions manager, do you want to migrate.

Do I?

Hmm.

Do you have multiple copies of CS installed?

I would migrate, then disable.

Stupid question. What is CS?

Creative Suite.  You are using CS4...earlier version would be CS3.  Really old versions are Studio X (where x is a number).

Duh.  It's been a long day so far.   I did have CS 2 so I did a migrate.  How do I disable or is it just a matter of making sure nothing is checked?    The only extension listed for DW is webassist.com pay pal.

Unchecking the box disables the extension (after a restart).  We're just going through the basic troubleshooting steps here.  Extensions are known to f-up the Dreamweaver UI, so we try this first.  If this doesn't work, we move on to the next step.
