Text fade - multiple instances

please note i am *very* new to jquery  - i am looking for some jquery examples/code/plugin that will do the following (or close to it)

i have a list/collection of text items (names), i want to have 5-8 items on the page at a time, and have them fade into another text item one at a time from to bottom e.g.:

text item 1
text item 2
text item 3
text item 4
text item 5

fade in
text item 6
text item 2
text item 3
text item 4
text item 5
then
text item 6
text item 7
text item 3
text item 4
text item 5
...
text item 6
text item 7
text item 8
text item 1
text item 2
...
text item 3
text item 7
text item 8
text item 1
text item 2

etc.

anyone know of code/plugin/example that does this?

TIA

i understand using the multiple classes, but it is the sequencing and rotation that is giving the issues
