Microsoft PKI Root Server Private Key Backup

I have a MS Windows Server 2008 server running Certificate Services.  We have a two tier environment.  The root certificate server will remain off-line at all times.

For disaster recovery reasons, I have been asked to export the root server's private key and send it off-site.

I am new to Certificate Services.  Can someone please explain how this is done?  Appears to be a simple process, but I am unsure of myself.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
