Exchange 2007 Management Tools on an Exchange 2003 Server?

Setup:
Server 1
Windows 2003 Standard SP2 running Exchange 2003 Enterprise
BackupExec 12.5
Server 2
Windows 2008 Standard R2 64bit running Exchange 2007

Can I install the Exchange 2007 Management Tools on the Exchange 2003 box?
BackupExec is requiring this in order to perform a GRT backup of Exchange 2007.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Windows 2008 Standard R2 64bit running Exchange 2007 - That is not supported yet. You can only install Exchange 2007 on 2008 Non-R2.

Yes, you can install the management tool on Windows 2003, that should be fine.

Well, I currently have Exchange 2007 functioning on the Windows 2008 Standard R2 box.  We're migrating over from Exchange 2003 slowly.
Okay, so to confirm, I can install the Exchange 2007 Management Tools on the current Exchange 2003 box and it won't have any effect on the current 2003 box?

Take a look at the first point on R2:

As for management tools, although I haven't personally done this, it shouldn't have any affect on the Exchange services for 2003 no, as this is just a managment interface. You will be informed during installation if there are any pre-requisites missing or any issues pre-install.

Error upon installing only the Management Tools.
A previous version of Exchange Server is already installed on this computer. Run Exchange 2007 Setup from a different computer or remove the previous version of Exchange Server.

Ok, so there is your answer.

As I said "You will be informed during installation if there are any pre-requisites missing or any issues pre-install"

We are in the process of decommisioning Exchange 2003 faster than planned so we can get MS Exchange 2007 Management Tools installed on the BackupExec server.
With regards to Win2008 and Exchange 2007, apparently, from further research, I found SP2 for Exchange 2007 is not compatiable with 2008 R2 64bit.  We are at SP1 and so far, everything is working as it should.  We will not be installing SP2 but hear SP3 will resolve the Win2008R2 issue.

thats correct, sp3 adds support for win2008 r2, all previous editions are classed as not a supported configuration.

Was no real solution, was a question if something can be done and no solid yes or no answer.
