Outlook not receiving if additional mailbox is added

A user is connected to Exchange 2007 with Outlook 2007, cache mode turned on. When they add an additional mailbox (Tools, Account Settings, Change, More Settings, Advanced, "Open these additional mailboxes"), they can view the additional mailbox just fine, but they no longer receive emails to their own account unless they click on Send/Receive. The patch for now is the schedule a send/receive every 5 minutes, but that isn't ideal. As soon as we remove the additional mailbox and restart Outlook, mail flow resumes. Any ideas? Thank you.

If you haven't already, try deleting and rebuilding their outlook profile and then re-adding the mailbox.  I've never heard of an issue like this, so my guess would be OST corruption.

We have a similar issue. I am trying to send an email to a colleague, who has the GM's mailbox opened as an additional mailbox.  Emails I'm sending to her automatically get deleted (and don't show in the deleted items folder, only the recover deleted items from server).  If outlook isn't open and she checks her email via phone, or checks via outlook web, or we disassociate the GM's mailbox, she can receive the emails fine.
We tried deleting and rebuilding the profile but still have the same issue.
We are using Office 2016
