how to get around "Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run "

I'm trying to run disk defrag on a 4TB drive connected to a windows 2003 server, but it's telling me "Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run "  The d drive is used for backups of large amount of files (large and small) so I though a defrag may help it a little.  The D drive is a iscsi SAN.  I have a number of servers that have this config and some allow me to run defrag on the SAN drive, others don't and I can't see anything that is different from one machine to the next.  The drive size is 4TB and to take it offline to run at boot up isn't an option.

Any ideas how I can get around this warning and allow me to defrag this drive?

Many thanks

Try this:

Run regedit and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
Change the BootExecute entry to say: autocheck autochk *

If there was anything after the asterisk that is your problem.

Hi Tymetwister

I checked the reg key and there is nothing after the *

Thanks for your help on this, but the only way I found to try and defrag the drive was by installing O&O defragemnet software.  I also tried the Disk Keeper, but this gave the same error and I think it's because the cut down version is used by MS Windows
