Does having a UPS close to my servers cause a harmonic imbalance?

I have 4 servers in a hosting facility and I run a few sites off of them. I've had a problem with the facility loosing power and crashing my servers. This is causing problems with writes to a database and corrupting tables. So I thought I would purchase a UPS and put it in the closet with my servers. The problem is that the hosting facility is saying that having a UPS that close to my servers will cause a harmonic imbalance and could damage my servers and that I should instead pay to use their UPSes for an extra $70 a month.
Is there any problem with having a UPS in my closet at a hosting facility?

...think that they have fabricated an ethereal micombombulation of a transfixiated other words, they are just trying to get you spend another $70 per month.

If having a UPS near the servers is a problem, then 90% of the world's server rooms would have to be reconfigured.

Honestly, you should not be paying for them to fix a problem that they themselves should be responsable for and they should not be asking you to pay extra to make sure your servers stayed online...they are a hosting company right?...this is "their" responsibility.

I'd say, find another hosting company.

None that I know of if you use a good quality UPS. I use APC UPS units and park them near servers at clients (to keep power cords short). They have been running this way for years with no issues.

I would be curious to know what harmonic imbalance your hoster is talking about. After all, unless it is a 240V UPS (and therefore separate electric supply) it runs from the same power, on the same phase, and in the same way as your servers.   ... Thinkpads_User
I don't know your layout or the size of your potential UPS, but I've never had a problem with any UPS of varying sizes, being housed in teh same cabinet as my servers.  I think they are trying to scare you into buying their own.

If UPS's caused a Harmonic imbalance by being close to your servers, would no doubt stop everyone using them.  Lots of people house a rack mount UPS in the same cabinet as their server without impact.  The whole point is the UPS is there to help stabilise the power environment.

The best course is to approach the manufactuer that you are looking at and get a definitive technical answer from them.  In my experience, I have never seen a UPS damaging servers merely by proximity.
