Project loads but Solution icon doesn't load in Visual studio 2005

I have visual studio 2005 and 2008 Professional installed on my Machine along with MS SQL Server 2005 Developer and Resharper plug-in.

The problem is with VS 2005 IDE. When I create a new project or open an existing project, The only thing that appears in the the solution explorer is the project(s). It does not show solution icon.

Further I don't any option to (Re)build solution in the "Build" menu. But I can build/rebuild the project.

I hope any can shed some light on this problem

Regards

You can rebuild the project but not the solution?? How do you do that step by step?
Did you click on Show All Files?

You know you are supposed to open the solution not the project?
You need to open the solutionname.sln file.
Which file are you opening?

I am afraid you are wrong. A solution can be built/rebuilt and cleaned from both solution explorer and Build menu.

I am totally confused. You said you could NOT rebuild the solution but you COULD rebuild the project. I find that odd. And our print screen shows the build/rebuild menu for the solution.
So what exactly is the problem?
The print screen shows that you CAN rebuild the solution but you state that you can't.
You state that you can rebuild the project and I am curious as to how do you rebuild only the project from the IDE. That''s what I want to see.

The second print screen is from VS2008 and different solution?

The second print screen is also the solution that you have selected and that is why you can build/rebuild, etc..
To see the project on the big window just click on the project file which I believe is one down (just arrow down once and double click on it). It will appear on the left big window.

Once I gained access to a PC I was able to see what you were referring to. Your second print screen you can build your project but you should also be able to build your solution from the file toolbar menu. I didn't understand how you would be able to build your project but not your solution.
The reason why the icon and solution folder are not showing up on your solution explorer is because the always show solution option is not selected.
Once you do that the solution will always show in your solution explorer window.

Although I got the same answer on one of Microsoft's forums this solution is accurate and it works.
