Zebra TLP 2844 won't print

Trying to print to a TLP 2844 USB-connected printer (ZDesigner).  I tried using the example provided by Zebra (where they list 7 examples in their manual), and now the printer does not print anything.  I have tried un-installing / re-installing the printer and driver several times.  It seems to recognize the Reset command, but will not even print out a configuration label.  It appears (to me) that the printer is extremely touchy and now even a Reset does not get it to print.

How do I best recover from this?  I hope the answer is easy, as it seems any mistake sends this printer into never-never land.

I called and the guy was trying to blame the labels (!) despite the fact I had this working last week.  It does not look encouraging . . .

Well, embarrassing as it may be, I found out that sometimes I did not have the printer closed properly -- you have to firmly press down on it to close it.  When this wasn't done, the transfer was too far away from the label to take effect.
In view of this, I am not sure what to do about awarding points.  What do you suggest?
lol, if it doesnt pain you to do so ... give em up! Ill take em
