vncserver dies immediately

I am trying to connect to my server from my desktop using vncviewer. I start the vncserver session on putty and the process dies in less than a minute.
Can you please help me solve the problem?

It sounds like vncserver is looking in the wrong place for your files. Have you checked that the path: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11  exists and the files are there?

If not, you need to figure out where everything is installed... and possibly move it to where vncserver is looking for it. For instance, by chance is your security policy file here:  /etc/X11/xserver/SecurityPolicy

Also look for fonts in /usr/share/fonts or /usr/share/X11 ... and create sym links in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11 so that vncserver can find them.
