Do I need to run Windows Defender and Windows Firewall if I have installed McAfee's Total Protection 2010 product?

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate but have been having problems with "incompatible drivers" which turned out to be Symantec's Confidence Utility driver (whatever that is). A survey of forums on the web on this issue has just decided me to buy McAfee.

Do I need to keep running the Defender and Windows Firewall if McAfee Total Protection is running?
 Thanks in advance

So you did an upgrade to Windows 7 from some older version. I had the same problem with Symantec. However; I bought the latest version and voila...it worked. Dinsj is correct. Windows Defender and Windows Firewall are no longer needed.

No the McAfee will do the same job as windows firewall and Defender and they would start messing with each other so keep the windows security turned  off. 1 virus and firewall is enough protection!

When you use more than one product such as the ones you mention they often fight one another, create system performance issues and it really isn't necessary.
