Can't install McAfee on computer

I have a computer running Windows XP home.   I tried to install McAfee 2010 Anti-virus.   I ran the disk and clicked on Install icon.   It opens the first window but the window stays white.   I tried it in the DVD rom drive and same thing.   I tried another McAfee, same product, and got the same result.  I looked to see if there were any other anti-virus products on the computer but did not find any.   Any ideas?

Now I
Now I am getting the same thing on Internet Explorer, just a white window.   I had just run Combofix and Malwarebytes.
this is a sign... of what's to come....  you really should stay far, far away from mcafee in every way possible.

there's a reason they made a forcible uninstaller (linked above)

go with avast, www.avast.com
Ok, but what is causing my Internet Explorer to do the same thing, McAfee is not installed.
Personally, I have always had bad experiences with McAfee stuff--how it affects system performance and how well it protects. I just helped a relative this morning remove several instances of malware her cox.net-provided McAfee missed. I recommend you not use your McAfee product, even if you paid for it, and use Microsoft Security Essentials. It has been very highly reviewed and it is free. It also helped me when I got hit with stuff Sunbelt-Software's VIPRE missed.

Thanks.   I removed Internet Explorer 7, re-installed then ran all updates.   I then ran the McAfee removal tool and it worked, I was able to run the install for McAfee.
Thanks
Just some advice - Mcafee does not hold up very well to modern infections on the web.  If you really want some good protection, I would recommend the paid version of AVG anti-virus edition http://www.avg.com/us-en/home-small-office-security or ESET Nod32 anti-virus edition http://www.eset.com/store/ .  I usually don't advise getting any antivirus with firewall because I have seen too many of them cause issues with program installations.  I would also check out the "Web Of Trust" addon for both internet explorer and Mozilla Firefox http://www.mywot.com/ .  This addon helps block thousands of poorly rated web sites before they get the chance to cross any infection over to your computer.
