Identifying memory for a laptop

I have to do a memory upgrade for someone else's laptop.

When I visit I want to be sure I have the right type on me and doing a remote Crucial memory check on the system I see it requires the following.

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=2963D36DA5CA7304

I also happen to have a spare 512mb memory module from another laptop but I am not sure if it is the same.

It says on the chip the following information:
"
V916764b24qbfw
512mb 2rx16 ddr2-667mhz cl5
Pc2-5300s-555-12-a1
0703-s2655507
"

Can anyone confirm to me if the following will work as that given on the link above?

Don't want to buy memory unnecessary but at the same time I don't want to visit and then find the memory I have does not work.

Many thanks

Hello there,

You are in luck. Laptop memory is far simpler than its desktop equivalent.

To check for compatibility, check the memory type in use on the laptop you wish to upgrade. The one you have mentioned is a DDR2 667 chip. It should be good to go if thats the type supported by the other laptop which sounds like a P4 laptop.

Memory type can be checked easily via a load of freeware available on the internet / the device manager, if you go through the properties of the memory.

Cheers.

512mb 2rx16 ddr2-667mhz cl5
Pc2-5300s-555-12-a1

is not the same as
512MB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700 memory module CT435919 Module Size: 512MB
Package: 200-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR PC2700

and you will need to buy the memory as the stick of ram you have is much newer than the one you need to buy.

Whoops,

Sorry I didnt check your link before posting which states the memory type on the laptop needing the upgrade. The laptop that needs upgrading needs the older DDR1 2700 RAM module. It will NOT support the stick you have at the moment.

Sorry.
