Building Sharepoint Strings in Workflows

I have a workflow that sets the Name (for use in form) to be an order number e.g 123456.

I have this references in an email that is sent to the creator when the order is complete, but is returned in the email as "123456.xlsm".

I think I'm right in believeing I could build a dynamic string to take the Name (for use in forms) field valure, strip off the ".xlsm" and create the correct information for use in the email?

Hopefully it's fairly simple?? Please let me know :)

Depending upon the type of workflow that you have implemented, you can either use the SharePoint object model to get the name of the item or if its a sharepoint designer workflow then you will have to use variables to do the string operations.

It is a Sharepoint Designer created workflow.

The link provided was useful for other things, dut did not help me resolve the issue.

Is there a function that I would need to put in at some point in the variable that would remove ".xls"?
