How to determine max CPU upgrade for Dell Poweredge server?

We have a Dell Poweredge 2900 server that I would like to upgrade the processor on. It currently has a dual-core Xeon 1.6 ghz, and I've been looking at the quad-core Xeon's that are 2.6. How can I determine if my motherboard supports this upgrade, and if not what does it support?

Call Dell.

That's the simplest, fastest way to find out.  Why would you want to use a CPU that was not on the supported list from Dell?  Even if it worked.

EE is great for technical problem solving - and you might even get a valid and accurate answer to this question as you were originally looking for... problem is, a phone call takes 5... maybe 10 minutes.... even if you're on hold, within 30 you'd have a definitive answer.  And as stated, you don't want to use a CPU that is not supported in a production SERVER even if it works today.  If it fails tomorrow, you've put a potentially significant part of your company at risk because you didn't stay with a supported config.
