How to add a Group to Alerts?

I went into Actions > Alert me in my Announcements list.

For "Send Alerts To" I browsed for a group, but just got "No results were found..."/

The group does exist. What could be the cause?

The group needs to be a distro list or mail enabled security group.  Can not be a regular security group.
