System Restore my HP DV6 FV181AV

I'm currently in the middle of doing a system restore on my HP DV6 Pavilion Notebook and I'm really interested in installing Windows Vista only and not all the secondary programs that come with the HP factory recovery.

Is this possible?  I use this computer as a client for a database and would prefer not to have all the extra software bloating my system.

If there is a way I'd like to know how to do it?
Can I download Vista and use the Product Key to activate it?

Any help is appreciated.

You cannot control it getting installed when using restore image or disk... however the programs are called "bloat software" and you can use this free utility to get rid of them: http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/

you can also uninstall all programs niot needed from add/remove.
When the laptop is in the state you want, make an image of it - then you can use that to restore it later; if needed !
personally, i recommend Acronis for handling the image : www.acronis.com
but there are many free  image  softs around, like Drive image  http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
