Create ODBC connection to link Crystal Reports to Advantage database

Hi, I have a proprietary product that runs on Advantage Sybase, the datafiles have the extension .adi, .adm & .adt. I'd like to be able to get into the tables and run reports with crystal, but I need to setup an ODBC connection. I have found some posts on www.connectionstrings.com, but I need more basic instructions on the steps of setting up ODBC. For instance, 1) will this be USER DSN or another type 2) how do I get an Advantage driver. Not sure what questions will need to be answered after I select the Advantage driver...

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Renee

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

To get an Advantage driver, you probably need to go to the Advantage site and download it.

You can use a User DSN but then it wull only work on that machine,  To get the report to work on other machines you will have to set up a User DSN on each machine.  It is probably easier to setup a SYSTEM DSN that all users can use.

Thanks for this info. I downloaded the driver and created the ODBC connection, but now in Crystal I get the following message: "The advantage server version is older than the advantage client version. The server must be the same version or newer than the Advantage client"

You may have to look around to get the latest version from the Sybase page or contact them.
