Not all of Exchange email not showing up in outlook 2k7

Running exchange SBS 2003 with outlook 2007 clients.  Have a user that does not get all of his emails delivered to his inbox.  There are none in the badmail folder and message tracking says it was delivered.  He is getting the message on his iphone that uses exchange activesync.  Its not all messages, just every now and then, but they are business critical.  His mail store is 14 gigs and he has 30k items in his mailbox.  Could this be an OST or mailbox issue???

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Have you looked in a non cached version of his mailbox or OWA to see if the missing items are listed there? If they are listed there and not in cached mode then it is time to recreate the OST.

They are not in OWA

Can the message be moved on the iPhone to a new mailbox subfolder and then does it show?

sounds like the exchange database has some logical corruption, so it might be time to take it down and run isinteg -s <servername> -fix -test alltests until 0 fixes are reported OR until you have run it 3 times in a row.

Is there anyway to queue the incoming messages while it is defraging?  Can i create another message store for this user with sbs 2003 since he is the largest?  I have another user with 10 gigs of email and no one wants to archive.

As far as I know, SBS does not allow multiple mail stores...
isinteg isn't a defrag. it is a logical test/repair of the database...

did you try the move of the item on the iPhone to a subfolder to see if the message shows?

I have run isinteg with no errors reporting

I was mistaken that he didnt get it on his iphone or in OWA.  Im running an OSTscan now.  The isinteg found no errors and no fixes.

So if he didn't receive it somewhere else i.e. it doesn't show anywhere (even in a noncached mode of Outlook) then how does he know he actually received it and it is missing now? Apart from Message Tracking, that you mentioned earlier...

maybe someone else who is using his mailbox (like a colleague or secretary) is moving the items. Or a rule?

Have you tried doing a search/advanced find on his mailbox to see if one of these tracked messages is sitting in a subfolder somewhere? Have you checked his Outlook rules and Junk E-mail settings?

He recieved a follow up email with the email in question attached.  I tracked in message tracking and it was delivered to his mailbox.  Just checked junk mail and it was set to permanenty delete junk mail.  This possibly was the culprit but unable to check.  He has no rules.

When was the message delivered? If it was delivered less than 7 days ago you should be able to undelete it from the Inbox.

Add this registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options

DumpsterAlwaysOn (DWORD): 1

Then restart outlook and you can "recover deleted items" from any folder
