OWA Forms Based Authentication

I recently enabled FBA on my Exchange 2003 server.. now I'm getting prompted twice, onces with the regular non-FBA popup, then a second time after authenticating the first popup using the FBA form.

What have I misconfigured?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

How many exchange servers do you have?
If you have more than one then you should have a front end server.  You only need to enable FBA on the front end server.

Do you use ISA? If so you should only enable FBA on either ISA or Exchange see my blog here: http://demazter.wordpress.com/2010/02/09/publish-exchange-services-with-isa2006/

I do not use ISA (hate it actually), and yeah we really should have a front-end  but we're using the dual DNS pointer routine.  i.e. webmail and webmail1 pointing to different hosts.  However webmail is the only one with a 3rd party SSL certificate at this time, so I went into the ESM and enabled Forms-Based authentication.  After bouncing IIS I now get two promots when attempting to login externally.

This is normal if you don't have a front end server and the user tries to login to the wrong exchange server.

So if I browse to "webmail.domainname.com" Im presented with the non-FBA popup.. i login with a user that has an account on the server webmail is NAT'd to I get another auth prompt in FBA form.  How does that even work when I havent authenticated yet?

Ahh, that's different, sorry I thought you said you were getting 2 FBA prompts if your browsing to the site and getting a windows type authentication then the authentication methods on the Exchange virtual directory are not configured correctly
