I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

did you stop the server first?  Stop the server then restart it.

Is there any backup or restore process going in parallel since that might prevent Shrinking of Database Files.

I ran a backup earlier, but that ran to completion.

Ok.. Try running this script:

USE ur_db_name
DBCC SHRINKFILE (ur_db_log_filename, 1000);

where 1000 represents 1000MB or 1 GB to be the size of your Log file.
