Testing applications in mobiles phone

Hi there,

I have very easy question, but I simply have any idea of the answer.

I have developed a small mobile-application using java, for my nokia. The problem is that when installed on my samsung the application simply crashed. Then I tried on my other nokia but different model, and I didn't got the normal behavior.

So my question is, does anyone have any idea how companies that develop mobiles applications/games test their software. Does they have to have all models for all mobiles phones??

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In many cases depending on the company they have a test environment which tests between multiple platforms. Most software will not work on ANY phone but rather will support a range of phone makes and model. Some development suites include resources for testing across multiple platforms see: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/devicecentral/features/

Hi deisrobinson,

I have a look to Adobe central device, but appear that we only can test if we develop in Flash , isn't that correct?

If so, this don't help me because I using Java.
Did you ever worked on company that makes mobile appl.?

You are correct but that was intended to be an example of what some phone developers use. I do not develop mobile apps but have played around with them on multiple phones in my spare time.

For testing Java apps you could try the Java Device Test Suite located here:
