MySQL Install - Cannot Start Service - Error 1067 "The process terminated unexpectedly"

Hi,


I'm trying to install MYsql on a windows server 2008 x64 box. Each time I try to install, I get as far as mysql server instance configuration wizard and

standard configuration

Install as a windows service, i check the box that says "launch the mysql server automatically", i also select to include the bin directory in windows path, I dont modify security settings...i leave them blank


this then bring me to the next "page" which tells you how the install is running,

prepare configuration

write configurationfile

start service

apply security settings


the installer gets as far as write configuration file, it outs a tick in the box next to this option indicating that it has completed sucessfully.

then it hangs.....it cannot start the service


Can anyone please help?



I'm new to mysql and have tried uninstalling and re-installing, re-booting, deleting the service etc... still cannot get this to work.
