I run W3K3 and use the SMTP service (which is contolled via the IIS MMC). <br />

Is there a way to control what SMTP events get logged into MS's System Event log? I want errors only (no warnings, no info). I am aware that I can &quot;filter&quot; the warnings using the event viewer itself so that is not my question. <br />

In the perfect world, I would be allowed to specify what gets logged based on &quot;event ID number&quot; (and not event severity), but I will take what I can get :-)<br />

How to turn off Microsoft's SMTP service 'system event logging' for specific event types

Interactions between email servers and clients are governed by email protocols. The three most common email protocols are POP, IMAP and MAPI. Most email software operates under one of these (and many products support more than one).  The correct protocol must be selected, and correctly configured, if you want your email account to work.
