Allow directed broadcast over VPN

I'd like to send a broadcast packet to 192.168.0.255 from a vpn connection but currently it is not working. I've also tried pinging 192.168.0.255 but this doesn't work, however internally it does.

I've tried an L2TP vpn and an SSL vpn. Any ideas?

You would normally do that with UDP forwarding for the type of broadcasts you wanted to allow using IP helpers at the source and directed broadcast at the destination interfaces of the the routers. Your VPN routers would have to support that functionality for this to work.
