NPS - A reversibly encrypted password does not exist for this user account.

Hi,

I have setup NPS as our Radius server for our new Avaya phone system. I have made the registry change that turns EAP-MD5 back on. I have 3 phones that are working perfectly, but I have just added a new phone for testing and it won't login. I get the error below.

The user could not be authenticated using Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP). A reversibly encrypted password does not exist for this user account. To ensure that reversibly encrypted passwords are enabled, check either the domain password policy or the password settings on the user account.

I have ticked the box to store password using reversible encryption, but I still get the above error. I can't see any difference between the old phone accounts and the new one.

Any help would be most welcome.

Best wishes

After opening a ticket with Microsoft it turns out that the switch should be using CHAP-Radius and not EAP-Radius. This has now fixed the issue.
