How do I access an RS232 tty from Ubuntu?

I have a USB to RS232 adapater plugged into my Ubuntu Laptop. The other end is plugged into an ALIX itx board, and I need to access the terminal. How do I do that?

dmesg shows that it lives at /dev/ttyUSB0.

Install and configure minicom:

sudo apt-get install minicom

sudo minicom -s

While I am sure minicom works, that didn't help me solve my problem.

I ultimately started using gtkterm.

apt-get install gtkterm, then changed the port to /dev/ttyUSB0, and the baud rate to 9600.

Hit enter, and viola!
