Opening office 2007 documents (.docx, etc..) with Exchange 2003 webmail. keeps asking for password

keeps asking for password everythime we open a office 2007 document with the "x" at the end of it.
I added the extensions under exchange server IIS.
xlsx - application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet

We have various operating systems (XP, Vista and 7 (32/64 bit) all having the issues.

We have a workaround where I have the Outlook clients using RPC over HTTP but I still would like to get this issue fixed.

Best,

Larry

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There's a really good thread on this behavior here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrgeneral/thread/e6148098-4cc6-488d-a276-8f1269396f4d

No real resolution, it looks like it's part of Office 2007's protocol discovery.  There are some offered workarounds in the thread though, so worth a look.
