there are several solutions out there indicating to start and stop the search service
and also make sure you are using domain accounts.

Got the issues fixed, no more Gatherer errors, took a while but I found it.  MS had a Hotfix out there that worked, no errors for the last three days, but will continue to monitor.

Thanks for the help.

Did your search stop working when you got this error?
I loaded the hot fix and still get event id 2436 and 2424.
